Tracy Anne Hart, Photographer & Author – Seeing Stevie Ray, Owner – The Heights Gallery

TRACY ANNE HART is known for her widely published, exhibited and auctioned images of Texas legend Stevie Ray Vaughan. Her prints of Vaughan and other famous musicians have been shown in Austin, Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Los Angeles and Portland, Oregon and sold to companies and private collectors from Texas to Australia. Sony Music has used her work on billboards and in print ads as well as several CDs and DVDs and the images have appeared on PBS, VH-1, on DVDs and in many books, magazines. She also does articles for Guitar World and Texas Monthly magazines among others.

Hart is a second-generation photographer and has owned The Heights Gallery in Houston (now an online gallery only) since 1984 with her late father, famous photographer Leonard M. Hart. She was born in Elgin, Illinois and moved to Texas in 1969 with her family. She has been fascinated with the geometric symmetry and beauty of her native state’s architecture, bridges, and industrial sites, and Texas Hill Country landscapes, and she continues to photograph them as well.

Among the recent collectors and exhibitions of her prints: Fender, the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Michael Zilkha Collection, the Hard Rock Casinos in Las Vegas and Vancouver BC, the GRAMMY Museum in Los Angeles and the Bullock Texas State History Museum (part of the GRAMMY Museum and Jimmie Vaughan curated “Pride and Joy: The Texas Blues of Stevie Ray Vaughan” and in the permanent collection of the Bullock), at Antone’s in Austin and in a major show there: “Absolute Music” as well as several exhibits at Rockefellers Houston, and in John Varvatos retail stores nationwide. She had major print exhibitions at the Modern Rocks Gallery, her rep in Austin, and will continue to do so in 2020 and beyond. Hart supports charities such as the Food Bank and the Sims Foundation at all of her events.

Recently she has done private and group instruction both on music and basic photography, and she will be setting up more workshops and classes in the next year. She will collaborate with John Price PhD, LCD on a talk and print exhibit entitled “Stevie Ray Vaughan: Walking the Tightrope” at the Jung Center in Houston in October 2019.

Her first book, Seeing StevieRay, was released by Texas A&M University Press on April 20, 2020. In addition to Vaughan, the book features images of his influences such as his brother Jimmie Vaughan, Doyle Bramhall, Albert King and Albert Collins as well as players who have followed such as Ian Moore, Gary Clark Jr., Charlie Sexton, and Lukas Nelson, as well as Hart’s thoughts and technical notes on the photographs. Look for a March 2020 release from Texas A&M Press.  Hart will show prints from the book at the Antiquarium Gallery in Houston in conjunction with FotoFest.

Hart is represented by galleries and retail outlets including Modern Rocks Gallery in Austin, Big Henry’s Gift Shop at Antone’s, and at www.theheightsgallery.com.
